Wooded lots, and what they change

The defining feature of most properties here is tree cover on a large lot. That shapes the work in a few specific ways.

Shade decides the turf question. Under established canopy, sun-loving grass will not perform no matter how it is installed. Where there is genuinely not enough light, the honest answer is a planted bed, shade-tolerant ground cover or a hard surface rather than sod that will thin out and need doing again.

Mature trees are an asset and a constraint. Post oaks are common across this area and they are unforgiving about root zone disturbance, compaction, grade change and overwatering. Much of what looks like disease on lots like these is actually something that was built, dug or watered too close to the roots. Often the most valuable advice we give is where not to put things.

Drainage has to work around roots. Trench routes get planned with root zones in mind, which sometimes means a longer run than the map would suggest.

Copper Canyon is supplied by Cross Timbers Water Supply Corporation, the member-owned co-op that also covers Double Oak and Bartonville. Because it is not a city utility, the town website is not where the watering rules live.

Many properties here are on an on-site sewage facility, and the drain field dictates where irrigation, hardscape and new trees can go. We locate it during the estimate.
